the 48-hour performance lab

A daring experiment! During this collaborative 6-hour "lab", 17 women participated in devising a 10-minute play to be performed two days later as part of LAB/SHUL's Post-Patriarchy Purim event at the House of Yes.  Each participant was invited to respond to a series of prompts prior to the event: "What does your personal liberation look like?", "What is your liberation anthem?",  "What is something that society does not know about you from the outside?"

Directed by Nessa Norich, the process included a series of movement exercises, each woman performing her own short piece for the group, a beautiful dinner wherein we discussed the story of Purim in the context of our own attitudes and experiences of patriarchy, and a renegade process of weaving our truth together in one hell of a powerful performance.
